Frequently Asked Questions

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring is a durable, water-resistant flooring option that mimics the look of hardwood. It consists of multiple layers, including a built-in pad, wood plastic composite or stone plastic composite core, a high-definition printed design layer, and a protective wear layer.

Most luxury vinyl plank flooring is promoted as 100% waterproof, making it ideal for areas prone to moisture like kitchens, bathrooms, and basements. The waterproof nature of LVP allows it to withstand small spills or splashes, however excessive water, such as a flood would likely result in a floor replacement or repair due to subfloor damage.

Luxury vinyl plank flooring is highly durable and resistant to scratches, dents, and wear. Its tough wear layer, typically between 12-20 mm’s protects against daily foot traffic, pet claws, and furniture movement. With proper care, LVP can last 15-25 years.

In many cases, luxury vinyl plank flooring can be installed over existing floors, provided the surface is smooth, level, and in good condition. However, it’s best to consult with a flooring professional to determine if your existing floor is suitable for LVP installation.

Luxury vinyl plank flooring is easy to clean and maintain. Regular sweeping or vacuuming, followed by damp mopping with a mild cleaner, is usually sufficient. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive tools that could damage the wear layer.

Luxury vinyl plank flooring can be a cost-effective alternative to hardwood, providing a similar aesthetic.  As with any material, the price can range from cost effective to higher price points based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to wear layer thickness, overall thickness, board widths / lengths, manufacturing etc.

Yes, most luxury vinyl plank flooring is compatible with radiant heat systems. However, it’s important to check the manufacturer’s specifications and follow installation guidelines to ensure proper performance.
